The WomanACT Soul of a Warrior is a new award given to an exceptional front line worker in the Violence against Women sector. Nominees for this award must work in Toronto and show commitment to advocacy for improving the lives of women and children experiencing violence.
We received numerous submissions for this prestigious award and the nominating committee of the WomanACT board of directors reviewed the nominees. The decision was difficult as there were so many dedicated and deserving nominees. After extensive review and deliberation, Kristina Jensen, of Ernestines Womens Shelter, is our first ever recipient of the WomanACT Soul of a Warrior award.
Kristina goes above and beyond by providing services and advocacy to women and children experiencing violence. She ensures women and children obtain safe and affordable housing. When working with women and children at Ernestines, she provides individualized support in a respectful and efficient manner. Kristina has received a substantial amount of positive feedback from the women and children she works with daily. Furthermore, Kristina helps women obtain safe and affordable housing, particularly in cases where they are experiencing violence.
She also shows a strong commitment to social justice, through her involvement in events such as Take Back the Night, the Dyke March, and the December 6th Memorial. Kristina also organizes educational activities regarding the Day of Pink for schools in the Rexdale community. Kristina has also been a proponent for subsidized daycare in Toronto to make childcare affordable for all families.
We look forward to reviewing future nominations for the WomanACT Soul of a Warrior Award.
